Training of Intermediaries and Paralegals on the ICC
2nd -3rd April 2012, Lira

The “Training of Intermediaries and Paralegals on the International Criminal Court” was held in Lira, Uganda, from 2nd-3rd April, 2012. There were 22 participants from civil society organisations, legal aid organisations, affected communities and psychosocial support organisations
The objective was to train the intermediaries on the ICC and Uganda’s legal system to perform a range of functions which are necessary for the ICC to do its work effectively. The presentations and group discussions allowed them to have enhance their understanding of the law, how to access the Court and the process of assisting communities to access legal services.
After the training, intermediaries will be able to help raise awareness among affected communities about the rights of victims to participate in ICC proceedings, and assist victims in filling out official paperwork, or in securing psychosocial services, security, and legal services. These intermediaries will conduct outreach in all of the local languages, and assist in providing translation when the community dialogues with affected communities take place in May 2012.
Stephen Odong, Patricia Bako, Stephen Tumwesigye and Kendra Hefti-Rossier were present.
